Summer, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, is a compassionate advocate dedicated to supporting her patients at every step of their journey. Her approach is centered on understanding each person’s individual struggles, providing personalized care that may include prescription medications, natural supplementation, psychotherapy, neurotransmitter
testing, and other tailored treatment options.
Having transitioned from a career in law enforcement to nursing and psychiatry to help those in need, Summer brings a unique perspective to mental health care. With a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education and a Post-Master’s Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, she has been committed to mental health since 2012. She integrates her experience, education, and passion into every aspect of her practice, including the innovative use of therapy micro miniature horses to teach others about mental health. She is also skilled in treating eating disorders, including obesity and binge eating, using medication-assisted
treatment.
Every member of our team is also a parent, we understand the importance of treating children when it comes to mental health needs. Many pediatricians do not have the experience with medication management to comfortably treat children when it comes to some psychiatric medications. Summer accepts patients of all ages for mental health evaluations and medication management.
Patients visiting our Bowling Green and Scottsville Kentucky offices may have the chance to meet in our in office Emotional Support Animal, Charlie. Summer has a huge love of animals and even has her own farm so she understands how important animals can be in treating her patients. In addition to psychiatric medication management Summer also practices functional medicine. This is generally not covered by insurance but is a patient-centered approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of diseases rather than just treating symptoms. Summer uses multiple methods of care to help get to the root cause of issues including genetics, environment, and
lifestyle (including diet, exercise, and stress) and then create a personalized treatment plan. This approach is often used for chronic conditions like fatigue, digestive issues, and autoimmune disorders. If you would like to learn more about functional medicine please contact our office.
Summer has a deep passion for mental health and hopes to play a part in providing care to as many patients as possible.
